Service Description
“Viking Knit Chain” refers to an ancient technique of circular wire weaving that is 'knit' and then stretched using a drawplate to tighten and lengthen the weave. It’s not knitting in the way that we usually think of, using two needles, but it entails weaving a single strand of fine gauge wire into a sculptural chain. In the end, your finished Viking knit chain will look like tubes of knitted wire. In this class I will show you both single knit and double knit style chains and we will be soldering and applying end caps and adding a hand made hook style clasp. The image shows a double knit chain. Silversmithing 3 is a prerequisite for this class. The silver wire needed for this class is sold by the spool and will be available for purchase prior to class. Please bring your torch, butane, and solders to class. All tools necessary will be available for use in the classroom.
