Keum-boo

Prerequisite: Silversmithing 3

60 US dollars
Ridgedale Drive

Service Description

Keum-Boo means "attached gold". This ancient jewelry technique originated in Korea and is used to attach keum-boo gold foil to sterling silver. You'll learn the process of depletion gilding sterling and preparing it for receiving the gold. The bonding of these two metals is achieved through pressure and heat. After creating your Keum-boo material, we'll continue on and use it to create a pair of hoop earrings with soldered post findings. You can also make a pair of earrings that dangle from hand formed ear wires, or both! The gold and the silver needed for this class are available as a kit. Please bring your torch, butane, and easy solder to class. All tools necessary will be available for use in the classroom.
